1750 GTV – June 2011
Sam is back to work on the GTV with gusto. Finished the RH sill panel, B-pillar, and primed the rear guard. Also fixed a couple of low spots on the roof (which I couldn’t even see!). Working on fitment and gapping of the doors. The door hinges are re-bushed, and a few minor bumps smoothed out in both door skins. I brought around the new door handles for trial fitting, and the mirror to pick the correct location. Derek has...
New Bits #14
More small parts shipped from Highwood, OKP, and Alfa-Service. My favourite bits are the Carello number plate lights. Surprised that Alfa-Service sent me two different coloured front sway-bar links, would look kind of odd this way. Will see if they can fix this. Edit: Gabi at Alfa-Service apologised and is sending a matching black sway-bar link free of charge. Much...
1750 GTV – May 2011 #2
Received all the bits and pieces back from the platers. One batch in clear passivated zinc, another batch in black. I’ve spent a couple of hours tonight trying to sort things out and find some key things. As expected, I think I’m missing a couple of bits that have probably fallen out in the tumbler but I’ve gone a bit cross eyed looking so they might be hiding behind themselves in the boxes somewhere. I put...
New Bits #13
I had to order a timing belt kit for the 159, so I got it from EB Spares in the UK. To make the postage *seem* worthwhile, I got a clutch master cylinder and some bleeder screws. A shipment also arrived from Classic Alfa – handbrake cables, brake and clutch hoses, spring hats and rubbers, caliper seal kits, a clutch slave, vacuum hose, a set of splash guards, and some other odds and sods. I’m puzzled by the brake...
1750 GTV – May 2011
Not much to show on the bodywork front, as Sam has been busy on a Fiat 124. That’ll continue for at least the next three weeks, then he’ll pick up our project again. I’m happy for some delay, as I want to get all the suspension reconditioned before he’s finished the paint – so that we can make a rolling car immediately. I’ve spent a couple of days pulling apart the front suspension, sandblasting...
Old bits #93
I picked up another second-hand dash the other day (thanks Paul!). My original dash I had recovered back in 1999 but I was never happy with the result. The re-skin took out the detail lines around the instrument binnacles, and the glovebox lid doesn’t close properly. The glovebox lid could probably be improved with a bit of heat and pressure, but I’ll always be looking at the shape around the instruments and thinking...
