Winton Alfa Racing March 2015

For the first time in 2015 AROCA is running race events within our sprint days under AASA regulations.  Those of us with suitable cars with rollcages and a AASA national circuit license can compete in proper racing with grid starts and line honours at stake.  It’s relatively inexpensive and a nice step up from club sprints.  We had a good field of cars, although a couple dropped out before the first race.  This left me at the...

Goodwood 73rd Members Meeting 2015

Somehow I managed to end up on a business trip to the UK in March for two years in a row, incredibly well timed!  I bought a ticket for the Goodwood members meeting before the trip was completely finalised in fact, lucky I did as the limited allocation for non-members sold out well in advance.  Another sensational meeting full of mouth-watering racing cars in a beautiful setting, if a little chilly this year.  Turns out Australians...

Beaulieu National Motor Museum

After spending the morning at Brooklands, I whizzed down the motorway to visit the UK’s National Motor Museum at Beaulieu in the New Forest.  This was my second visit, but I don’t remember much detail from my first trip in 2003.  The museum has quite a nice selection of cars and memorabilia in a very well maintained set of exhibits from pre-war to post-war to racing cars and motorcycles. Brooklands Museum

I recently had the opportunity to spend a morning at the Brooklands Museum in Weybridge, England.  Brooklands is steeped in motorsport history, being the world’s first purpose-built motor racing circuit.  The museum itself is filled with a great collection of historic racing cars, aircraft, and memorabilia from the history of Brooklands.  The well-maintained buildings themselves are fascinating, including very early examples of...

RACV Mornington Classic Showcase 2015

Jack and I dropped in on the RACV Classic Showcase, this year moved from Flemington to Mornington.  This show displays a really nice selection of interesting marques, and incorporates a concours competition for both the Mercedes and MG car clubs.  A highlight was seeing the 4C up close and personal for the first time.  First impressions – it’s tiny, but also very wide.  Much prettier in real life than in the...

British Car Museum in NZ

No family holiday would be complete without visiting a car museum, everyone knows that.  This time it was the British Car Museum at Te Awanga near Napier in the Hawkes Bay region.  This is one man’s passion for collecting on display with over 400 cars packed in, most still driveable and in very original condition.  New Zealand imported and assembled a large number of British cars right through until the 1980s when Australia had...
