Shitbox Rally 2012 – Day Six
Day Six – Winton to Undara, 608 kms, mixed unsealed and sealed. Happy to get out of Winton. Nice town, but a little menacing. Could be the rumours of police with vendettas? We got a UHF call on our way to Stamford, the primary school kids would like to see the cars on their way through… we stopped and the kids were very excited to see the shitboxes, and even took the opportunity to stand on one of them! It’s...
Shitbox Rally 2012 – Day Five
Day Five – Windorah to Winton, 451 kms, mostly unsealed. Leaving Windorah – oh look more dirt roads! Thanks to the Trofeo team’s GPS we stopped right on the Tropic of Capricorn for lunch. “Doesn’t look very tropical” Dusty much? My t-shirt will never be the same.
Shitbox Rally 2012 – Day Four
Day Four – Innaminka to Windorah, 455 kms, mostly unsealed Preparing to leave Innamincka, cars are starting to look a little dusty? Five Alfas at Burke and Wills’ Dig Tree. The rally photographer joined us at this point. You can watch his video of our day four experience here: http://vimeo.com/40550388 I believe we stopped to take photos of the glorious view. Then of course Stu’s Alfa 90 decided to...
Shitbox Rally 2012 – Day Three
Day Three – Tibooburra to Innaminka, 404 kms, all unsealed. Via Old Strzelecki Track. We may have given the Amigos a little Top Gear bump… Cameron Corner – the boundary between three states. Sand dunes heading West from Cameron Corner. So many sand dunes… Somewhere after the sand dunes we took the wrong turn and a small group of us ended up on the Old Strzelecki Track, when the route was supposed to...
Shitbox Rally 2012 – Day Two
Day Two – Wentworth to Tibooburra, 600 kms, all sealed. Hang on, didn’t the book say “All sealed”? Packsaddle Roadhouse – a great little roadhouse and pub in the middle of f&*% all. Welcome to Tibooburra. The locals welcomed us and closed a street for an outdoor dinner. Great fun!
Shitbox Rally 2012 – Day One
In April this year Sheldon and I ran the Shitbox Rally, and raised over $7300 for cancer research. My friends will do a better job of describing the experience in detail. I just can’t find the right words to describe how fantastic an experience doing this rally was, and what a lasting memory it will be. I’ve never been to the real outback, and this rally took us to some amazing and unlikely (especially in a $1k shitbox)...
