AROCA EMR to Maldon December 2012
Somehow I volunteered (was volunteered?) to arrange another lunch run to Maldon this year. We kicked off from Maranello Pur Sang Motors in Brunswick, travelled north through Mickleham and Konagaderra Roads on our way out of town, nipped across to Daraweit Guim, then up to Romsey for coffee. From Romsey we passed Hanging Rock, and then a quick blast on the freeway before a run through Malmsbury and Elphinstone and into Chewton....
AROCA Winton December 2012
My friend Sheldon and I hatched a plan to take the car he’s preparing for the Shitbox Rally next year to Winton for a club sprint, and see if we could kill it. Mission unsuccessful. The stock Alfa 90 is quite soft and spongey but surprisingly predictable and fun to drive. The de-dion rear end keeps it incredibly well planted, but is not enough to stop the inside rear wheel from lighting up in the tight stuff – well...
AROCA Tony Hawker Charity Rally Nov 2012
Tony Hawker was a well-loved club member who passed away earlier this year. A couple of his friends from AROCA organised a club run and fundraiser for the GI Cancer Institute. A very nice run from Nunawading out through the fringes to Diamond Creek and up to Kinglake for a coffee break. From Kinglake we went north to Flowerdale, and then back through Healesville to Tarrawarra to visit the art gallery. Then on to the Train Trak...
New Old Bits #25
Recent evil-Bay acquisitions include a NOS 1750 GTV boot (trunk) badge which came in a bag and is totally pristine. A pair of NOS C-pillar badges have weathered slightly but are still much nicer than the reproductions. Even though they have the same part number, they are supposed to have a different curve for left and right sides – I can’t see it by eye, will be interesting when we come to fit these. The white enamel is...
Winton 6 Hour Relay 2012
It’s been a busy couple of weeks of motorsport. I didn’t plan to compete in this year’s Winton 6-Hour, but Bruno convinced me to enter in one of the Maranello Pur Sang customer teams. At the last minute I got switched into an experienced team ‘Maschi di Alfa’ to replace a driver who could not compete. These guys were taking it seriously, and were quite experienced at the relay having won it in the...
Veloce Racing Winton September 2012
Last weekend I competed in my first full race meeting. The event was the VRA (Veloce Racing Association) East Coast Challenge – an annual competition between Alfa drivers from Qld and NSW, and this year the event came to Winton Raceway to attract some Victorians along. The VRA organised to run the category within Winton’s ‘Super Truck Nationals’ which had an interesting mix of truck racing, improved...
