In the family: 1965 Giulia Super
Fiona’s parents have finally succumbed to the Alfa virus, and bought this very tidy 1965 Giulia Super. It belonged to a club member who took very good care of it while using it regularly so it’s really a perfect car for Bruce and Helen. I had a good run around in it last weekend, and wrote my impressions afterwards: Wonderful note, very smooth the 1600 feels surprisingly strong (I’ve only driven 1750s or 2000s...
Wedding car 159
A chap in the Alfa club was looking for some nice modern Alfas for his wedding cars, and I couldn’t resist. I think the two 159s look fantastic. It was nerve wracking driving the bride and groom back from the wedding to the reception – definitely do not want to have any incidents. Quote of the day “Good opportunity to teach your passengers the difference between oversteer and...
Past Alfas: 1991 Alfa 33 16v Sportwagon
Our 1991 Alfa 33 16v Sportwagon, owned from 2001-2004. Purchased for £500, it gave us lots of fun motoring around the UK. It was mostly reliable as well, except each time Fiona’s mum visited and it wouldn’t start – batteries don’t last long in the UK winter. I learned why you change cambelts on these...
Great Ocean Rd
A long weekend away at Apollo Bay in the 159. Happily the Great Ocean Rd was closed at Skenes Creek for the first couple of days due to landslides, so we took the nice inland roads through Deans Marsh and Forrest. The torque of the 2.4 JTDm engine makes for effortless driving in the twisty bits, mostly 3rd and 4th gears with loads of go available on tap. Only in the really twisty stuff do you notice the bulk of the car, it feels...
