Turismo Tasmania 2012 – Day 4
Day four from Hobart and we realised that Tasmania was going to show us some real weather. Things looked good at the hotel, but once on the road the rain started to come down. It was very changeable though and patches of sunshine would bust through – not much warmth in the sun though. We stopped for a tasty morning tea at Peppermint Bay, where Fiona had a peppermint tea and I topped up on coffee and took some photos. ...
Turismo Tasmania 2012 – Day 3
Tour day 3 started with a brisk Launceston morning, and a drive to Longford – site of a major road racing circuit from 1953 until 1968. Part of our route took us along the Longford ‘Flying Mile’, and then along the highway past remnants of the circuit and bridgework which was familiar to me from period photographs. From Longford we followed some sweeping country roads into the Central Highlands and began to climb....
Turismo Tasmania 2012 – Day 2
The second day of the tour started with a visit to Launceston’s National Auto Museum (www.namt.com.au/). For a small museum this one certainly packs in the quality, with lots to see including vintage bikes and a couple of quite significant race cars. The next leg followed the Tamar Valley north from Launceston until we reached the picturesque Batman Bridge over the Tamar and stopped to take some photos. Then the leg...
Turismo Tasmania 2012 – Day 1

On Thursday evening before Easter, we sailed on the Spirit of Tasmania – the large ferry that crosses Bass Strait from Melbourne to Devonport in Tasmania. The boat was well subscribed for the Easter break, so there was a long delay...
Mario II blossoms into life (-ish)
We’ve had a busy month or so preparing Mario II for the gruelling shitbox rally. Preparations have included attending to a leaking rear caliper, and a leaking clutch slave cylinder, replacing shagged swaybar bushes, fitting of second hand rally tyres, alternator mounts, and various other bits and pieces. Finally Mario was declared fit for the highway, and was granted a 45-day club permit. We’ve also fitted a stereo with...
Phillip Island Historics 2012
As usual there was a large contingent of nice Alfas from all over Australia competing at the Phillip Island Classic this year. A highlight was the return of Hugh Harrison’s Group A Ignis GTV6. Below is a selection of interesting things that caught my attention yesterday. I also uploaded this short clip to give a reminder of the awesome sound and feel of the Group A cars:...
