The Bottcher family managed to make it out to New Zealand in January for a short holiday break in the North Island. This was organised in the latter half of 2014 without much thought to motorsport, I guess because not much happens in Australia in January because it’s so bloody hot. Not so much in New Zealand it seems, we’d coincidentally lined up our break perfectly with the New Zealand Festival of Motorsport. Such luck!
A top event held over two weekends, we were only around for the first weekend. The obvious highlight for the weekend was the big grid of Formula 5000s, but all of the racing was excellent. Hampton Downs looks like a fun track, and is excellent for spectators. Altogether a highly recommended experience and not hard to get to from Australia!
