Occasionally I have to travel abroad for work, and this time I was required for a week in London. Hmm, what motoring events are on at this time of year? Way too early for the F1, Goodwood Revival or Festival of Speed. What’s this? A members meeting at Goodwood at the end of March – but it’s members only? Luckily my pleading email to the Goodwood organisers was successful and everything was lined up to attend the Goodwood 72nd Members Meeting – it’s first running for some forty-eight years.
Due to work commitments I was only able to attend on the Sunday, but what an amazing feast of historic motorsport was on display. 50-60s sports cars and saloons – everything from Alfa Giulia Ti Supers, to a 1900 CSS Touring, to Ferrari 250 GT TdF, Aston Martins, Jaguars, Lotus, gullwing Mercedes. 50s-60s Grand prix cars from Ferrari, Lotus, Aston, Maserati. 80s saloons – Dolomites, Minis, BMW 2002, Alfa GTVs. Demonstrations of 1980s Turbo F1 cars – McLaren, Toleman, Benetton, Alfa Romeo. Group B rally cars, and 80s Le Mans prototypes.
An overwhelming amount of lovely machinery, skillfully driven around the very fast Goodwood aerodrome circuit on a lovely warm spring day in England. Who could ask for more?
I’ll be writing a longer-form article for the Cross+Serpent magazine, but here is a set of my favourite photos.
