Shitbox Rally 2012 – Day Four

Day Four – Innaminka to Windorah, 455 kms, mostly unsealed

Preparing to leave Innamincka, cars are starting to look a little dusty?

Five Alfas at Burke and Wills’ Dig Tree.  The rally photographer joined us at this point.  You can watch his video of our day four experience here: http://vimeo.com/40550388

I believe we stopped to take photos of the glorious view.  Then of course Stu’s Alfa 90 decided to stop (fuel pump relay).

The call on the radio was ‘let’s stop at the next bit of shade and have some lunch’.  This was the Sturt Stony Desert.  Most of an hour later, we gave up and just stopped.

Sheldon and I could smell fuel pretty badly, pulled over for a look and realised we had bashed out a section of fuel pipe under the car on rocks.  We set about a roadside repair, and our favourite mechanic friends took the opportunity to have a rest.

The Two Amigos couldn’t just have a puncture – they had to destroy a rally tyre completely!

The township of Windorah turns their basketball courts into a rally service area – after two really tough days there were a few casualties.
