Glorious Alfa Island March 2010
The Alfa Romeo Owners Club of Australia held a special race meeting at Phillip Island Raceway in March this year. It was called Alfa Island and was an Alfa-only event over two days. Words cannot describe how special it was to participate in one of the biggest Alfa Romeo events in the world this centenary year – a few highlights:
- meeting visitors with their Alfas from all over Australia coming together to celebrate the marque through motorsport
- sharing a track day with the Peter Giddings P3 race car, a TZ-1, ES-30 Zagato, and 105 GTAs
- the Alfetta 159 on display – probably the most celebrated grand prix racing car of all time
- a parade of hundreds of Alfas mobbing the circuit at lunchtime
I was fortunate enough to win my class for the day, for which I took home a handsome trophy and keepsake. Competing was enough reward however.
